If each Ivor Andrew employee had a walk-up song, what would it be?

Jack King, Senior Designer

Two facts at the time of this publishing:

  1. The 2024 baseball playoffs are in full swing.

  2. Music is always playing on the Ivor Andrew speakers.

So it’s no surprise that a question was thrown out there recently: if we all could choose our walk-up song, what would it be?

For those unaware, a walk-up song is what plays in the baseball stadium as the next batter makes their way from the on-deck circle to the plate. It lasts just a few seconds, but it’s a perfect way to announce your presence with authority.

Brian Kelly, President

What he says: The build up, the drop, the bass! I love the energy of the song and its never-give-up attitude. I will run through a brick wall now.

What we say: “Jump Around” by House of Pain. Ali says, “I picture Brian in his cool Nikes just jammin’ to this. He’s hittin’ a dinger after this song plays.” Steph then asked (true story) what a dinger is, and everyone was happy to tell her.

Keith Booton, CEO

What he says: I’m a product of the 80’s, so it absolutely has to be some sort of training or fight montage anthem.

What we say: We had plenty of suggestions for Keith. The Star Wars imperial death march. A song simply called “I like beer.” And of course, a sick playlist of various NPR updates. Our guy is forever informed.

Steph Behrens, Director of Accounts

What she says: Just an ultimate banger through and through. Can’t help but vibe to this and feel like a total hardass when this song comes on.

What we say: Fantastic range for Steph. “Du hast” by Rammstein. “Bury It” by CHVRCHES. “Shakedown Street” by The Grateful Dead.

Doug Carter, Creative Director

What he says: A song about a supercharged funny car in Vegas? Heck yeah, I'll take more of this, please. Hair dryer in the middle of the song? Nope, that sound is a supercharged Lamborghini v12. inject it right into my veins.

What we say: easy choice here: “Green Onions” by Booker T. & the M.G.'s. It’s old school, it’s cool, it’s catchy.

Colleen Cakora, Director of Strategy

What she says: First of all, it’s 100% accurate. Second of all, it oozes cool and confident which is exactly how I feel walking up to the plate.

What we say: another piece of cake: “Party Hard” by Andrew W.K. Colleen’s always got the horns up 🤘

Jack Baker, Digital Marketing Specialist

What he says: I get to choose walk-up music when I’m brought onstage at a comedy club and this is my go-to. For me, a walk-up song needs to be loud, go hard and have a killer guitar riff. Frankenstein checks all boxes.

What we say: either “Lizards” by Phish or complete silence.

Luke Trayser, Associate Creative Director

What he says: Specifically, the chorus at the end where the frontman is just screaming SPOOOOOORTS while laying on the ground. Throughout their entire catalog, this band is the perfect combination: excellent musicians who put on a great show and don’t take it too seriously.

What we say: we think “Even Flow” by Pearl Jam fits him perfectly, as does the grunt Thwomp makes when he tries to squish Mario in Super Mario 64.

Harrison Gerard, Art Director

What he says: I LOVE 90s dance, but I think for a walk-up song you want a slightly deeper cut, and Electric fills that niche for me. So good, instantly memorable and I love any song that has a robot voice saying the name of it.

What we say: either “Groove is in the heart” or “Funkytown.” Can’t go wrong with either when Harrison’s around.

Jack King, Senior Designer

What he says: Whenever this song comes on, I can’t skip it. It’s super nostalgic for me during a time where I listened to mostly whatever my parents listened to. So this song kinda epitomizes me finding my own style of music that I liked during middle school. Also the MV was kinda risque for a middle schooler, so I felt like a badass.

What we say: for Jack, give us “We Will Rock You” or “The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows” by Brand New. Two very different vibes, but both fit.

Rafal Zielinski, Graphic Designer

What he says: It’s on repeat and running through my head allllll the time.

What we say: we’re gonna be honest, we would have said “Dr. Beat” as well. This guy can’t get enough of it. Second only to Taylor Swift’s entire catalog.

Lawrence Matusiak, Cinematographer

What he says: Just a really chill, laid back tune. Editor’s note: LOL

What we say: what a range! “mas queso” by FLOYD WONDER. “If you can’t hang” by Sleeping with Sirens. “The Spirit of Radio” by Rush. All fit Lawrence perfectly.

Christine Chow, Account Manager

What she says: This was my gateway song into house and electronic music.

What we say: Mary J. Blige is about takin’ care of BUSINESS, much like Christine. She ain’t about any hateration, holleration in this dancery. She gets “Family Affair” by Mary J.

Ali Dorn, Account Manager

What she says: If I played baseball, I’d need a new walk-up song every at-bat because I simply cannot decide. The song that makes me feel unstoppable is by none other than the queen herself, Shania. “Man! I Feel Like A Woman!” will have me ready for anything. Big presentation? I am ready. Friday night? See you there. The moment I hear that intro, I am amped.

What we say: “Friday, I’m In Love” by The Cure. “Any Way You Want It” by Journey. “Narco” by Blasterjaxx & Timmy Trumpet. Narco might be the wildest walk-up song in this whole list, by the way.

Gianna Miceli, Account Manager

What she says: It’s catchy, energizing, and slightly annoying (but in a loving way). You can’t help but sing along and be in a good mood, and I like to believe my bubbly personality is just as contagious. I like to live in lala land and pretend everything is fine. Classic early 2000s music video is a whole vibe too. TAKE ME AWAAAYY.

What we say: “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” by ABBA or “Last Dance” by Donna Summer. Try not to dance to those. Impossible.

Jason Rugg, Video Editor

What he says: A good walk-up song needs to make you feel, well, bulletproof. 1980’s synths and an angry, almost screaming vocal performance. What more could you ask for?

What we say: “Invincible” by OK Go. “We Are Sex Bob-Omb” or “Black Sheep” from Scott Pilgrim.

Amy Brinkworth, Marketing Specialist

What she says: My crazy fun pump-up songs are from guys like Pitbull, Lil John, Biggie, but I am going to steal the song from our awesome 2024 reel. This song is FUN.

What we say: Easiest of choices. “We Like To Party” by Vengaboys.
